Webinar Summary Report

World Soil Day, 2022

 An International webinar on the auspicious occasion of “World Soil Day, was Jointly organized by the Department of Botany, Nanda Nath Saikia College, Titabar, Jorhat, Assam in collaboration with Department of Botany, Dhemaji College and Common Microbial Biotechnology Platform (CMBP) at Hanoi, Vietnam on dated 5th December, 2022. The Webinar was aimed to raise the awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being by addressing the growing challenges in soil management, increasing soil awareness and encouraging societies to improve soil health. Thus, the key perspectives of World Soil Day lies in creating attention among the research fraternities, common people and farmers on the importance of healthy soil and advocating for the sustainable management of soil resources.

Webinar structure and participants

The webinar was structured in a Welcome address; Inaugural speech; 02 Scientific presentations; Participant interactions, Vote of thanks and Online feedback collection from all the participants. More than 60 participants across the country joined in the Webinar and interacted with the resource persons.

Overview on different events of World Soil Day

The webinar welcome address was put forwarded by Dr. M. L. Dutta, the Vice-Principal & HOD of Botany, NNS College, Titabar. In her speech, she reminds us to strengthen the quality of soil and ensure that nature is preserved at all costs. The welcome address is followed by the inaugural speech of Dr. P. N. Bhattacharyya, Convenor of the Webinar Committee. In his speech, Dr. Bhattacharyya addressed the significance of World Soil Day 2022 and its theme "Soils, where food begins" that aims to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being by addressing the growing challenges in soil management, increasing soil awareness and encouraging societies to improve soil health. On this auspicious occasion of celebrating “World Soil Day 2022”, he too mentioned the message of Mr. Narendra Singh Tomar, honorable Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India to cite the importance of Healthy Soil on Earth. Following the inauguration speech, the scientific sessions of Soil Scientists have graced the occasion. Dr. Bhaskar Sarma, the convenor, and Dr. N. F. Islam, the Joint convenor of the Webinar committee introduced the honorable speakers before the participants and all. Two renowned speakers of the session viz. Dr. Kaberi Mahanta, Soil Scientist, HRS, Assam Agricultural University, Kahikuchi, Guwahti, Assam and Dr. Tanmoy Kark, FRSC, Principal Scientist (Soils), Upper Assam Advisory Centre, Dikom, Dibrugarh, Assam, accordingly shared their valuable knowledge and treasures of wisdom with the participants.

Presented by Dr. Tanmoy Karak, FRSC, Principal Scientist (Soils), Upper Assam Advisory Centre, Dikom, Dibrugarh, Assam

Participants interaction

After the scientific presentation, there was a fruitful interactions being held among the delegates and resource persons. Generally, participants received the webinar positively and appreciated the practical examples in the scientific presentations. The participants are highly pleased while attending at such informative and knowledgeable occasion.
