The Department of Assamese was established in July, 1959. The department offers B.A Honours and Pass course as well as higher secondary course. The course structure follows the latest UGC guideline on Choice Based Credit System approved by Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh. The department of Assamese has its goal to develop academic development in literature, language, culture and other life skills. The Department has a well organized mentoring system for the students It helps them to improve a holistic attitude for a cultural and moral understanding of society as well as to carry out respective syllabi. The department has a well equipped library, a museum, a wall magazine, hand written news papers and magazines and a research journal names Navonmesh which gives students the opportunity to explore and improve their talents. Department of Assamese regularly conducts seminars, workshops and special talks with interdisciplinary approach. All the faculties of the department are actively involved in the field of research and published books and papers in their name in different reputed journals
