The department of geography in Nanda Nath Saikia College was started in the very year of the establishment of the college itself in the year 1959 as Commercial Geography in the Intermediate course. The department offered General Geography at Pre-Degree level in 1971 and in 1974 it started Geography as a subject (Core). Geography as a Major or Honours subject was started in 1984 and till then the department offers both Major and General Courses. The founder head of the department was Mr. Prabin Gogoi, M. Sc., under whose dynamic leadership the department has flourished to its present status.
