The Department of Zoology, in collaboration with the Zoological Society of N. N. Saikia College organized an International Webinar on “Butterflies of India” in connection with the Big Butterfly Month India 2023. The talk was given by Mr. Gaurab Nandi Das, Department of Entomology, (Biology Centre CAS), University of South Bohemia, Czech Republic. The webinar was held in the conference room of the College.

Nearly 70 students were present physically and several other organizations like MoEF&CC, SACON, and others participated in online Google meet. The programme was conducted in blended mode. Gaurab Nandi Das delivered a talk on the topic “Butterflies of India- A brief introduction” which was quite informative for the students.

The HoD, Dr. Manashi Bortamuly, Department of Zoology gave the inaugural address wherein she welcomed everyone and gave the importance of butterflies. Then, Dr. Jafrin Farha Hussain, Secretary, Zoological Society of NN Saikia College gave a brief introduction of the resource person.

 The resource person spoke about the importance of butterflies, butterfly migration, dispersion, systematics, history of butterfly nomenclature and so many other topics. He also spoke about host plants of butterflies, road kills of butterflies and discussed about his research topics. He described about different families of butterflies.

At the end, several questions were asked and interaction session was conducted. Vote of thanks was given by Mitali Chetia.
