National Science Day was celebrated on 28.02.2024 in the college premises including the students of all the Science Department of the College. The Programme started on 26.02.2024 itself, when a quiz competition was organised among the students.
On 28.02.2024, the programme was celebrated in association with the Assam Science Society NN Saikia College Branch.
Many students gave a brief talk on the theme "Indeginious technologies for Vikkasit Bharat". A team from the Bombay History Natural Society (Rani, Kamrup Branch) visited the college and gave a talk on the awareness of vulture conservation. The talk on Vulture Conservation was delivered by a conservation biologist Sri. Sthitapragyan Mallick. The talk was interesting and all enjoyed the talk.
At the end, winners of the quiz competition were given certificates and prizes.

Day 1 Talk on Asiatic Black Bear Conservation

The Department of Zoology, in collaboration with the Zoological Society of N. N. Saikia College organized a talk series for celebration of the National Wildlife Week. Day 1 of the talk series was organized on 04.10.2023 which was delivered by Mr. Subhasish Arandhara, Ecologist, Pakke Tiger Reserve, and Arunachal Pradesh. He talked on the Conservation of Asiatic Black Bear and the theme of the talk was “Center for Bear Rehabilitation and Conservation”. At the outset, HoD, Dr. Manashi Bortamuly inaugurated the session and welcomed all. Mitali Chetia briefed about the resource person. The talk was highly knowledgable where he spoke about the care and nursing that are given to bear cubs, before they are ready for a life in the wild. He showed various videos where bear cubs get slowly acclamatised to their habitats.
Nearly 40 students were present physically and several others joined in online Google meet. The programme was conducted in blended mode. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Jafrin Farha Hussain and Dr. Samim Dullah was the overall co-coordinator of the session.
Day 2 Talk on ‘Lets Talk about the Lesser Known Pangolins’

The Department of Zoology, in collaboration with the Zoological Society of N. N. Saikia College conducted the Day 2 of Talk Series on 06.10.2023 for celebration of the National Wildlife Week. The talk was delivered by Mr. Abhijit Konwar, Ph. D. Scholar, National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bangalore. The title of the talk was “Let’s Talk about the Lesser Known Pangolins”. At the outset, HoD, Dr. Manashi Bortamuly inaugurated the session and welcomed all. Dr. Jafrin Farha Hussain briefed about the resource person. The talk was highly knowledgable where he spoke about the types of pangolins found in mainland India, the illegal trade on pangolins, the conservations measures of village community involvement, the ecology and habitat of pangolins, and on so many aspects.
Nearly 70 students including faculty members were present physically and several others joined in online Google meet. The programme was conducted in blended mode. The vote of thanks was given by Mitali Chetia.
Day 3 Talk on ‘Collection, Preservation and Collection of Odonates (Dragonflies and Damselflies)’

The talk was delivered by Mr. Arajush Payra, Research Scholar, bhijit Konwar, Ph. D. Scholar, Department of Environmental Studies, MIT, Pune.. The title of the talk was “Collection, Preservation and Collection of Odonates (Dragonflies and Damselflies)”. At the outset, HoD, Dr. Manashi Bortamuly inaugurated the session and welcomed all. Mitali Chetia gave a brief introduction on the speaker. The speaker elaborated the differences between dragonflies and damselflies with interesting photographs of different species. The talk was highly knowledgable and informative.
Nearly 60 students including faculty members were present physically and several others joined in online Google meet. The programme was conducted in blended mode. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Manashi Bortamuly.
