Report: Farewell and Inauguration of Pakhi 11.04.2025
The Farewell of 6th Semester Students of the Department of Zoology Batch of 2022-25 was held on 11.04.2025 in the Department premises. The programme started at about 11:30 am with a formal function, wherein the Principal of the college, Dr. Suvangshu Dutta and Vice Principal of the College, Ms. Dittymoni Bora graced as the Guests of Honour. After the welcome address, and after all took their respective seats, a welcome note was addressed by Mitali Chetia, Head of the Department. Then Pakhi, a handwritten magazine, prepared by the students of 6th Semester was inaugurated by both Principal and Vice-Principal of the college. Both Principal and Vice-principal gave a brief speech on the occasion and appreciated all the students involved in creation of the hand written magazine. After the formal inauguration, some cultural programmes were organized and the students enjoyed with full pomp and show. Students of all semesters of the Department attended the programme.
The students of 4th Semester and 2nd Semester organized the farewell programme very effectively. The faculty members were requested to speak on the occasion and then the outgoing students also shared their feelings during the entire 3-year journey. After the programme, light refreshment was served and relished by all present.
The outgoing students were gifted with a farewell card and chocolates; and they also presented gifts to the Department, as a token of love and appreciation. Group photographs were captured which will serve as memories for a lifetime.
Report:
A field trip to the Fishery Research Center, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat was conducted on 7th April, 2025 for the students of 6th Semester, as part of their Discipline Specific Elective (DSE) Paper named Fish and Fisheries. The total number of students participating in the field trip was 22 and the trip was guided and accompanied by Dr. Jafrin Farha Hussain, Assistant Professor and Miss Priyanka Saikia of the Department of Zoology, N. N. Saikia College, Titabar. The Journey started at around 9:30 am from Titabar.
Trip Objective:
The objective of the trip was to understand the different types of fishing technologies and methods of induced breeding, integrated fish farming, and composite fish culture, etc.
Field Observation:
A field-based knowledge was delivered to the students by Ms. Niva Dutta, Ph. D. Research Scholar of the Department of Fishery Research Center. Various types of fishing technologies like induced breeding, composite fish culture, integrated fish farming, breeding hapa, etc., were demonstrated. Students also witnessed several plantations of drumstick plants, mulberry plants, banana plantations which enhance the productivity of the fish farming. Students were explained about the use of Aquaponix and hapa in induced breeding. Overall it was an informative and enjoyable field trip.
Conclusion:
The trip ended at about 2 pm. Group photographs was captured and students left for their respective destinations.
