World Environment Day Celebration at Dholi High School

The World Environment Day 2024 was celebrated in the form of an extension activity at Dholi High School, Titabar on 05.06.2024. Dr. Manashi Bortamuly and Dr. Jafrin Farha Hussain (President and Secretary, Zoological Society, respectively) attended the programme.
About 70 students of Class IX and X primarily were present in the programme. At the beginning, there was tree sapling plantation drive that was carried out in the school premises in the playground. President of the Zoological Society, Dr. Manashi Bortamuly welcomed all the students of the school and spoke on the importance of a healthy environment around us.
After a small tea break, and after the students had their lunch, both the faculty members of N. N. Saikia College were felicitated by the teachers of the school with Gamocha and a book. A power-point presentation was given by Dr. Jafrin Farha Hussain, Secretary of Zoological Society on the theme of World Environment Day 2024 wherein she emphasized on the importance of land restoration, and the adverse impacts of desertification. Another talk was delivered by Dr. Manashi Bortamuly, President of Zoological Society, wherein she spoke on the topic “Co-existence with snakes”. She explained about the importance of snakes in the ecosystem. She also elaborated to the students on the various types of key methods in identification of poisonous and non-poisonous snakes and also spoke on the different types of venoms found in snakes. Both presentations were highly informative and educative. The students of Dholi High School were greatly benefitted from both the sessions.
The programme started at 10 am and ended at 12:30 pm. After a group photograph, the meeting got over.
