The International Day of Yoga was celebrated at the Nanda Nath Saikia College in association with NSS Unit, and in collaboration with the Departments of Zoology, Economics, Education and Geography of the College. The programme was attended by faculty members of the college and students. The programme started with an inaugural lecture and lamp lighting ceremony by the Vice Principal of the College, Dr. Malakshmi Dutta. After that, President of Teachers' Unit and HoD, Department of Geography, Dr. Jonali Saikia Borkakoty briefed about the importance of Yoga in our daily lives. The theme "Woman Empowerment" was beautifully explained by Dr. Dipali Baishya, HoD, Department of Economics and after that the asanas were started. The session of yoga was carried out by Dr. Manashi Bortamuly, Secretary, Teachers' Unit.
Several asanas were practiced which included shoulder exercise, knee exercise, arm movement, hips exercise, butterfly yogasana, brikshasan, etc. The session was very relaxing and helpful. The message that was conveyed on International Day of Yoga was to practice yoga everyday for the benefit of the soul and mind.
After the yoga session, light refreshment was served to all those who were present. The day ended nicely.
