Nanda Nath Saikia College observed National Sports Day by organizing an Inter-Departmental Debate Competition to pay tribute to the legendary hockey player, Major Dhyan Chand. The debate competition was organized amongst the students of the Undergraduate level of different departments of N.N.Saikia College. The competition aimed to foster critical thinking and public speaking skills of the students.

The topic of the competition was- In the opinion of the house, “Sports builds a healthy and strong nation.” The event commenced with the welcoming of the honourable speaker Dr. Jonali Saikia Borkakoty, esteemed judges Mr. Nawab Mustafa Ahmed, Guidance Cousellor, Concept Educational Institute, Dr. Devoprotim Hazarika and Dr. Nirmal Jyoti Konwar. The event was hosted by Mrs. Sangeeta Saikia, N.N.Saikia College Students’ Union Debate Adviser. The honourable Principal of N.N.Saikia College, Dr. Suvangshu Dutta delivered the welcome speech of the event.

Sri Partha Hazarika, a student of 5^th Semester, Department of Zoology bagged the 1^st Prize in the competition. Sri Lachit Das, a student of 5^th Semester, Department of Assamese won the 2^nd Prize and Miss Gayatree Sarmah, a student of 3^rd Semester, Department of Geography bagged the 3^rd Prize respectively . 27 students from different departments participated in the competition.
