Title of the practice: Improvement of Teaching-Learning Methods

Objectives of the practice:

  • To make a pedagogical shift from the traditional to modern methods of teaching and learning
  • To make the teachers and the students acquaint with the latest development in teaching-learning technology
  • To enable the teachers and students cope with the advanced methods of teaching and learning such as the use of ICT tools in offline and online classes
  • To improve the pass percentage of students by exposing them to all modes of learning.

The Context:

The context of this best practice is to remain updated with the latest developments in the area of education to cater the needs of the teachers and students of the institution. Keeping in view the continuous developments in the field of education with regards to modern and effective modes of teaching, the college is persistent on providing the best methods and facilities available. It is deemed to be essential to keep pace with the perpetual growth in communication and information technology that is constantly changing the understanding of academia.

The Practice:

  • Through holding a weeklong workshop on “Use of ICT tools in classroom teaching” for teachers to make them familiar with the advanced methods of ICT.
  • Improvement in teaching-learning methods is practised through installation of ICT tools in different classrooms.
  • The annual meeting of IQAC Review Committee regularly reviews and evaluates the use and outcome of the ICT classrooms and offers suggestion for optimal use of the same.
  • Regular informal feedback is gathered from the students regarding their understanding of and interaction in the ICT classrooms
  • The administration takes up measures for uploading of course contents in the college website so that the students can get access to the information hassle-free.

Evidence of Success:

  • It has been observed that the teachers have adapted well to the ever-growing demands of digital learning and they are actively present on the online teaching-learning platforms.
  • During the COVID-19 lockdown, online classes were regularly conducted with the use of ICT facilities, using online platforms like Google Classroom, Google Meet, Cisco Webex, Zoom, Teachmint, etc with satisfactory attendance of the students. The results of the end semester examinations provide a testament of the adaptation of the teachers and students alike to the online modes of learning.
  • The teachers, apart from classroom teaching, engage in delivering study materials through platforms like WhatsApp and YouTube.

Problems encountered and resources required:

The major problem encountered with regards to the best practice is the financial point of view, as the installation of the ICT tools are expensive and they require regular maintenance.

Best Practice 2-

Title of the practice: Maintenance of Green Eco-friendly Campus

Objective of the Practice:

  • To take a leading role in the conservation of environment
  • To control and reduce pollution and environmental degradation
  • To make the campus “carbon neutral”
  • To strive in extracting energy from water and natural resources
  • To prevent human health from deterioration
  • To make the campus eco-friendly and greener.

Context of the practice:

The context of this best practice is to limit the impact of the environmental degradation that is creating havoc in the conservation of natural resources by regularly planting saplings and taking environment-friendly measures like putting ban on use of plastic in the campus. This practice is necessitated by the emerging ideas of holistic approach to nature and sustainable development. The stakeholders of the institution are encouraged to curb the extent of environmental degradation by understanding that the task at hand is for the future generations.  It is relevant in view of the global initiatives to preserve the nature and prevent further degradation.

Practice:

  • Regular plantation drive in the campus Installation of solar plates to promote a sustainable energy source
  • Use of LED bulbs instead conventional electrical bulbs
  • Use of solar street light inside the campus
  • Taking ecologically responsible decisions by the authority

Evidence of success:

The best practice has resulted in the maintenance of a green, eco-friendly environment in the campus as well as a developing greener campus with each passing year. The college administration, through verified agencies, measures the air and noise pollution level and, it has been observed that the pollution level is minimum. The minimal use of vehicle inside the campus makes the students and teachers aware of the hazards of excessive use of vehicles.

Energy conservation has been treated as a priority area, both in terms of adopting concrete energy saving strategies on the campus and in creating awareness among students and staff about its critical significance.

Problems encountered and Resources required:

The college has been facing a perennial problem of waterlogging for which plantation drives sometimes fail. The COVID-19 pandemic also proved challenging in maintaining the green campus of the institution.
